More Fever, AMU and back to 2

About half 2 in the morning I'm shivering again, I press the buzzer straight away this time, forget the dressing gown, I know what's going on, it's fever time.

39.6, heart rate 130 and rising, the nurse has called a nurse practitioner from another part of the hospital to see me, they want to start me on antibiotics because me white blood count is wrong? She's not happy with my care so far and wants a consultant to see me ASAP, she's not sure if my blood count is because of the steroids I'm on or what.

The doctor comes, it looks like she's gone and fetched him herself they have a discussion and I'm being moved before any treatment, they don't want to treat me all the way at the other end of the hospital incase I have a bad reaction so I'm waiting for a porter to arrive and I'll be off.

Porter arrives with a chair, the Nurse isn't having that, she wants me moved on the bed as I won't manage a chair.

I'm deposited in the AMU (Acute Medical Unit) its quite a scary place full of quite ill people, am i one of them?

Straight away I've seen 2 doctors and I'm placed on IV fluids, Steroids, Antibiotics and Paracetamol, I've got more bags hanging up over me than a Turkish Market stall, 2 more doctors come, I've got lots of eyes on me today, perhaps this is to make up for the neglect the doctors have shown me over the weekend.

My middle sister is driving up to see me, I guess being poorly does have its perks!

She calls in to AMU very briefly and they allow her to come and say hi quickly, I'm weak and knackered but it's nice to see her, says she'll see me later when she's up with the Wife.

I feel safe and looked after here for the 1st time since the weekend.

AMU say they have stabilised me so I'm being moved back to ward 2 to be looked after, this time I'm strong enough to be moved by chair.

Returning to ward 2 the Doctors, Nurses and HCAs are shocked to see me, they thought I'd gone home, when it's explained what's gone on they are shocked but I settle back in just as My Wife and Sister arrive.

A porter arrives, I'm off for a chest X-ray, this porter is a pro though, forward all the way in that chair, controlling it like he invented the bloody thing.

Back from my x-ray and my bed space is all set out, my cards are up and the wife and sister are patiently waiting for my return.

I'm weighed, asked the usual admittance questions and then settled into bed, I'm knackered and I'm still being pumped full of IV fluids.

I see the doctors again they are looking into all possibilities but the main idea is still DRESS syndrome, problem with DRESS Syndrome is its rare, 1in 100000, they want to do a case study on me, to learn more about the condition and to help others in the future, of course i agree and sign the consent.

Good news is my liver reading is coming down, it's now in the 200s, gonna continue with the IV steroids for now and the consultant will see me tomorrow.

Looking forward to Wife and sister coming at 7 for last visiting, gonna play a game of UNO and just relax, well that was the plan until I started with another fever just before they arrived.

I can't have paracetamol though until they've come and taken blood culture's so the doctor has been paged and I'm waiting, sweating and shivering, again not great company for visiting time.

About half 9, the Nurse is fed up of waiting for the doctor despite being constantly paged so she administers IV paracetamol to bring my temperature down and I can begin to relax and try to sleep.

The Nurse that got me moved to AMU has popped in to say hi and see how I'm doing which is lovely, I'm very grateful to her, she instigated this new set of treatment so God know what state I would be in without her.

About midnight a senior Nurse comes to take my blood cultures, he was good, didn't feel a thing. He's not happy with how long I'd been waiting, my fever was picked up before 7, shift change is 9 and not 1 doctor came.
